Drupalcon 2008: Boston!

Tags

Boston Drupalcon 2008So I'm heading off to Boston for my first Drupalcon and large international conference, Drupalcon 2008. I'm pretty excited and nervous, minus the fact that I haven't flown on a plane since i was 2! I'll be traveling with some of my fellow peers at Raincity Studios. Other than the copious amounts of t-shirt and swag that will be thrown around at the conference (woot! won't have to go shopping for a while!), I'm quite thrilled to be able to participate and hopefully converse with some of the leading contributors from the Drupal project.

For those of you who are interested: collegues Mark Yuasa, Hubert Florin, as well as myself will be carrying out this month's Vancouver Drupalers meeting on how to take a design draft to a functional Drupal theme.

Here's some more info regarding the event:

Join us at 6:30pm on Thursday January 31, 2008 at Raincity Studios
(the old Bryght offices) for the Vancouver League of Drupalers January
meeting. This month's feature presentation: Drupal Theming, From Design Draft to Theme

They'll talk about the practical tasks involved in bringing your theme
to fruition.

When in Whistler, Stay away from Listel Whistler Best Western

Apparently Listel Whistler Best Western doesn't know how to do their accounting properly. About a month ago, a couple of my friends and I started planning for our winter vacation. Considering all the recent snowfall, we settled for Whistler this year. Searching frantically for an available condo to stay at, we finally settled for Listel Whistler which conveniently resides in the central village of Whistler.

Snowfall in Vancouver: Time to hit the slopes!

Vancouver - Snowing! -2It's snowing! Can't wait until I can strap on my boots and head for the hills. All this fresh pow-pow is making me jittery.

Last year was pretty dead for me since I was stuck in school all year. I'm planning on heading up to Whistler for the holidays to spend some time with my girlfriend and some friends. If you ever need a ride up to Whistler or Blackcomb, check out snowbus.ca. They offer one-way and return tickets to and from Whistler. Prices range from $23.96 one-way, and $42.92 for a return trip. They also offer membership pricing which comes with a couple of nice perks.

Another great discount that I signed up for this year was an EDGE card. You can get killer discounts on lift tickets if you sign-up early enough. If you plan on going up regularily, you should definately check it out.

I've checked the local mountains and here's the run down:

Mountain Base (CM)
In the Last 24 Hours
Whistler/Blackcomb 110 cm 24 cm (and counting)
Cypress Mountain 83 cm 13 cm
Grouse Mountain 107 cm 12 cm
Seymour Mountain 78 cm 13 cm
Big White 64 cm 4 cm
Silverstar 85 cm 3 cm
Sun Peaks 85 cm 3.1 cm
